Potassium Sulfate (SOP) is primarily used as a fertilizer source of potassium for crops intolerant of the chloride in MOP, mostly higher value fruit and vegetable crops, but also for its sulphur content. Sulfur is considered to be the fourth “macro nutrient” and is also required in significant quantities by most crops. SOP is normally sold at a considerable premium to MOP but although it represents only a small market globally in relation to MOP, it is nonetheless the second most used potassium fertilizer and important in its own right.
